Booth Runs 1:15 at USA Half Champs; DiNapoli and Conley Post Wins to Lead NBSV's Weekend Results

NBSV was off to the races last weekend in distances ranging from 800m to the half marathon.

Rachel Booth and Kaitlin Gregg represented the team at the USATF Half Marathon Championships, hosted by the Grandma's Marathon  / Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.  Booth continued her consistent string of recent road finishes, crossing in 16th place at 1:15:16, just 30 seconds off her lifetime best.  Gregg, weathering a tough double after a 10K track race the week prior, had an experience to build on for future events at that distance.  Since September 2011, NBSV has placed at least one athlete in the top 20 of the USATF Championships at 5K, 10K, 15K, Half Marathon, 25K, and Cross Country distances, with Booth earning 21st at the 10 Mile Championships as well.

Our two fastest amphibians 

Back in the Bay Area, Melinda DiNapoli won the inaugural San Jose Giant Race 5 Miler on June 16, earning the "San Jose Sports Team Double" following her 1st place at the San Jose Earthquakes 10K last month.  Particularly as an athlete eligible for masters scoring, DiNapoli has turned in a fine series of spring races with several open victories.

Maggie Conley took home top female honors and third overall in the Threshold Racing Splash and Dash 2 mile swim / 10K run event in Morgan Hill on Sunday.  Maggie's husband Sam avenged his loss to his wife in last weekend's Stanford Duathlon by earning a runner-up place in the men's and finishing 2nd overall.  

In a new and interesting event at Gunn High School, Peter Trudelle took to the track for an open 800 in the MileTrials Champions for Charity USA event, featuring a mix of open heats and time trials for locals gearing up for Olympic Trials.  Trudelle took on a few big boys in the 800, but improved his season best by two seconds after only a few months training this year.   Catha Mullen also closed out her track season with competition in the mixed mile event.
